International Neighborhood Day: How it was celebrated in Georgia

Neighborhood Day & Citycom's Initiative
Care is an integral part of our lives, making our everyday routines more comfortable and enjoyable. It is exactly this care that shapes a neighborhood. For many, a neighborhood might simply mean living in a shared space, but in reality, it is a relationship that plays a significant role in our lives. It builds a tight-knit, united, and cohesive community where each person feels a sense of responsibility toward their shared space and one another.
To celebrate these relationships, Neighborhood Day was first observed in Paris in 1999, after which the day became a tradition in Western countries. In Georgia, this tradition began for the first time in 2024 through the initiative of Citycom.
Citycom, as the first Georgian digital platform for neighborhoods, has been helping neighbors communicate and care for their shared environment since 2017. The platform allows neighbors to track their residential building's income and expenses with full transparency, accumulate funds for larger-scale goals, hire specialists for desired services, unite neighbors in a single space, and conduct polls and elections.
Prior to celebrating International Neighborhood Day, Citycom launched a digital campaign that ran for an entire week. The main question of the campaign was: "Which neighbor are you?" Through a fun quiz, users had the opportunity to discover which typical neighbor archetype fit them best. The campaign also highlighted characters—Nanuli, Shimshila, Eka, Akaki, Sandro, Dzima, Mari, Levani, Natia, and Tsugo—that you might encounter in almost every neighborhood. However, this activity was not limited to the digital space alone; the day was also covered on both television and radio.
Finally, on September 28 at Tbilisi Mall, Citycom celebrated International Neighborhood Day with special events. The main surprise was the guest appearance of celebrities Tatuli Edisherashvili, Tamuna Nikoladze, and Eleniko Rukhadze. Alongside them, neighbors had the chance to get to know one another, recall funny neighborhood stories, and participate in a variety of activities.
The event inspired other neighborhoods to celebrate this day as well.
